Being held on African soil for the first time ever, the WorldGBC Congress will run in parallel with the premier 6th annual Green Building Convention at the Cape Town International Convention Centre from 16th – 18th October 2013. In 2012, we celebrate our 5th birthday - a significant milestone in our short history. We recognise that our mission to lead the transformation of the South African property industry to environmental sustainability is ambitious, but are encouraged by the bold leadership demonstrated by our members. At this timely juncture, it is apt that we recognise and commend the market leaders on the transformation exhibited so far.

The Green Building Council of South Africa announces the launch of the 'Green Star Leadership Awards' which serves to acknowledge pioneers in green building for the initial five years of our history.

From next year, the 'Green Star Leadership Awards' will acknowledge green building champions who demonstrate their steadfast commitment to the green building movement within that particular award year.

The Award Categories

Recognised Green Star of the first 5 years

Eligibility
- This category is for individuals, and not for organisations or projects
- This individual is recognised within the industry, has a proven track record and has contributed significantly to the green building movement over the last 5 years
- All individuals are eligible from any sector within the built environment, as well as any supporting professions, as long as their company is a GBCSA member (which can extend beyond the scope of only Green Star SA certified projects)
- Current GBCSA Board Members are not eligible
- Nomination must include two high resolution images as a relevant example of green building projects

Rising Green Star of the first 5 years

Eligibility
- The criteria for the Recognised Green Star of the first 5 years apply.
- Nominees must be under the age of 30 years old

Highest scoring Green Star SA project between 2008 – 2012
- Three Semi-finalists will be featured on screen at GBCSA Gala Dinner Awards ceremony
- Applies to Design or 'As Built' Green Star SA rating
- One winner - acknowledged at the GBCSA Gala Dinner - highest score across all rating tools (no nominations apply)
Best quality submission between 2008 – 2012
- Three Semi-finalists will be featured on screen at GBCSA Gala Dinner Awards ceremony
- Applies to Design or 'As Built' Green Star SA rating
- One winner - acknowledged at the GBCSA Gala Dinner, as voted by the GBCSA assessors and GBCSA technical team (no nominations apply)
